Overview of Qualifying Conditions

Who Qualifies for Medical Cannabis & How It Can Help

Medical cannabis has transformed the lives of millions, offering relief for a wide range of conditions. But who qualifies for medical cannabis, and how does the approval process work?

At CED Clinic, we believe in compassionate, science-based access to cannabis care. Massachusetts law recognizes a range of qualifying conditions, but it also allows for medical discretion, meaning that if a certified healthcare provider determines cannabis could benefit your health, you may qualify—even if your condition isn’t explicitly listed.

This page provides a comprehensive guide to medical cannabis eligibility, the conditions that qualify, and how cannabis is used to support better health and wellness.

📌 How Medical Cannabis Eligibility Works

In Massachusetts, medical cannabis is available to adults (18+) and to minors with parental/guardian consent and two certifying healthcare providers (one must be a pediatrician or pediatric specialist).

You must have a qualifying medical condition OR another condition that a certifying provider believes could benefit from cannabis therapy.

Common qualifying conditions include chronic pain, anxiety disorders, PTSD, sleep disorders, and neurological conditions.

Each patient must receive a written certification from a registered cannabis healthcare provider before applying for a medical cannabis card.
