Exploring Cannabis Medicine: Breaking Stigmas and Changing Lives with Dr. Benjamin Caplan, MD
In this video, we explore epilepsy, a condition where seizures become a recurrent problem. While there are various causes of seizures, medical management is focused on controlling them while avoiding side effects and maintaining quality of life. For some patients, cannabis provides a convenient alternative that has proven effective in reducing seizure frequency and severity. CBD, in particular, has been shown to be effective in treating seizures, and the first FDA-approved cannabis-derived medication, Epidiolex, is used to treat two rare forms of epilepsy. However, the potency of CBD varies greatly outside of the pharmaceutical version, making dosing a challenge. Join us as we delve into the benefits and challenges of cannabis therapies for epilepsy.

In this video, we explore the potential of cannabis as a tool to help reduce the manifestations of PTSD. Many individuals who suffer from this disorder experience an onslaught of memory, re-living a particular experience that can be triggered by a variety of sensory inputs. Cannabis can help by providing short-term forgetfulness, allowing the consumer to become absorbed in the present moment and facilitating a momentary escape from stress and anxiety.

We also discuss the benefits of cannabis for improving sleep and reducing nightmares, which can be particularly helpful for those who suffer from prolonged trauma. By processing distressing memories with lasting success, individuals can find relief from panic and fear and experience a sense of peacefulness.

It's important to address the cultural rumors about cannabis having lasting impacts on cognition and memory. While studies in the past have shown these negative effects, they have serious limitations that should be taken into consideration. We touch on these limitations but leave a deeper discussion for another video.

If you're interested in learning more about the potential of cannabis for PTSD, check out our upcoming book. It explores PTSD as a syndrome and how cannabis can help alleviate its symptoms. By embracing this powerful tool, individuals can find relief and regain control over their lives.

Just about everyone is aware that there's some kind of thing between cannabis & glaucoma.

Did you know that it may have potential benefits for vision in general? Well, cannabinoid receptors play a big role in the eyes, and clinical reports & animal models strongly suggest that ophthalmology is way behind the ball here. Sure, it already serves as an effective treatment for managing symptoms - but are we still missing a much bigger piece of the vision puzzle?

BUT - not all cannabis is good, not all forms of cannabis consumption are the equivalent - and some products can contribute to the worsening or progression of certain eye conditions. This is one of the areas where cannabis medicine is very different from just cannabis or the "everything is therapeutic" cannabis line of discussion. Knowledgeable specialists do careful research, learn from patients to determine if, and which types of, cannabis would make sense for medically relevant circumstances, and what products should be prioritized by which individuals. #cannabis #glaucoma #vision #medicalmarijuana #eyecare
