The endocannabinoid and opioid systems interact in ways that may matter for pain, withdrawal, tolerance, and mood. But this new review is a map of therapeutic possibilities, not proof that cannabis products can replace evidence-based pain or addiction treatment.

What This Study Teaches Us
The review summarizes a broad field: CB1 and CB2 signaling, THC, CBD, synthetic cannabinoids, FAAH inhibitors, MAGL inhibitors, and opioid-cannabinoid interactions. It teaches that the biologic overlap is real, but also that clinical translation is still constrained by small sample sizes and mixed study designs.
Why This Matters
Pain and opioid use disorder often overlap clinically and emotionally. Patients may hear that cannabis can reduce opioids, ease withdrawal, or treat pain. This paper helps explain why those ideas are scientifically plausible while also showing why they should not be treated as settled clinical guidance.
