For people living with chronic pain, an individualized cannabis plan starts with a clear goal and a careful review of benefits and adverse effects. A systematic review of randomized trials found that studied non-inhaled cannabis products or cannabinoids produced small to very small average improvements in pain, physical function, and sleep, with more transient adverse effects than placebo. These findings support a cautious treatment trial for some patients, not a promise of dependable relief.
